Poetry Challenge – Day 30!!!

Welcome to Day 30 of my 30-Day Poetry Challenge!

Well, here we are, the end of April, the end of this poetry challenge! Wow, it has been a ton of fun, a lot of work, and extremely meaningful to connect with people and give away books. I’ve learned a lot in the process.

Thank you SO MUCH, readers and commenters and sharers of my work! I am humbled and honored by your part in all this, yes, even if you read in silence, just a few poems.  I am still thinking about what’s next for me going forward, and definitely want to continue posting here, poems or observations. Stay tuned! I have a lot of ideas…

Congratulations, Brenna, for winning a free copy of my poetry book! Brenna, please email me your address so I can send your prize: theresa.sapphire@gmail.com

I will do one more book raffle tomorrow, so don’t forget to comment. I will contact the winner by email.

Thanks again for reading! Now for today’s poem.

On a whim, I became fascinated by looking up artists and writers who were late-bloomers. The NaPoWriMo prompt for today was to write a poem that “engages with a strange and fascinating fact,” so maybe that’s what got me going. In any event, it seemed like a fitting end to the 30-day Poem Challenge. Which I just noticed, ends with begin!

Poetry Challenge – Day 29

Today’s poem was inspired by my Libra horoscope this week, from FreeWillAstrology.com. These are always kind of quirky and creative: “The bad news it that 60 percent of Nevada’s Lake Mead has dried up. The good news – at least for historians, tourists, and hikers – is that the Old West town of St. Thomas has re-emerged. It had sunk beneath the water in 1936, when the government built the dam that created the lake. But as the lake has shrunk in recent years, old buildings and roads have reappeared. I foresee a comparable resurfacing in your life, Libra: the return of a lost resource or vanished possibility or departed influence.”

No winner today. I think we are all feeling fatigue as Poetry Month nears the end, you the readers/commenters, and I certainly am as the writer! I’ll do a raffle tomorrow, or not, no big deal. I’ve been so appreciative of how this project has gone so far.

Now onto today’s poem. Don’t forget to comment, and check back tomorrow to see if you’ve won!

I could not resist the NaPoWriMo prompt for today: my daughter Gennie has had such a passion for the Rider-Waite Tarot for years, does amazing readings, has done a huge research project on it, and even made a really cool animation of the cards (scroll down below the poem to see it– it’s short and amazing).

The prompt: pick a card (any card) from this online guide to the tarot, and then to write a poem inspired either by the card or by the images or ideas that are associated with it.
