(After) Confession is my first, completely-my-own book baby (as opposed to children’s books I wrote on assignment). I’m really proud of it — the poems felt really magical and heart-ful as I wrote them. The art on the cover was a painting I’d asked my artist-daughter Gennie to create for me (she was 16 at the time). It’s gorgeous and just what I envisioned. I got help from my talented friend Serena, who designed and laid out the book. It’s a beautiful volume and I like the way I was able to explore emotional topics with intensity and word-play, and offer poetry that I think many can relate to. I hope you’ll give this book the chance to move you.
Sometimes playful, sometimes painful, this collection begins with a dinosaur, looks to the moon, explores feeling and not-feeling, parenthood, growing up with family alcoholism, body issues, transformation, despair and wonder.
