sometimes…
sometimes
there’s just Grief
and you have to let the little girl
crawl out of that cave
where she hid for so long,
let her climb out
onto your lap where
you see her, the bowed
head, big eyes bewildered,
lip quivering, and you
hold her and say
“it’s okay, it will be
all right,” though you’re
not quite sure how
you got to be the grownup
here
you rock her
and tears flow hot
and salty from the deep
well that belongs to
both of you, sobs
from the chest, dark
pain that scrapes
you both out
it is good and hard and
so much better this way
you two, there for each
other at last

Oh-the tears come down my cheeks.
This is so beautiful and loving. Self love. Thank you !!!
Oh my dear… sorry to make you cry but I know too many of us can relate to that poor haunted inner little girl. Thank you, Rita.
Oops….
!!! Not ???
That’s okay, I can fix it!
You got deep into yourself today, Theresa. Love the poem. On another sad note, I saw the movie “1945” and ran into a pool pal as I was leaving the nearly empty theater which, when I opened my mouth, released sobs. Your poem and the movie and this snow hit a nerve today. Keep poeting!
I will… glad this little poem and the movie could be part of some emotional release for you!
Very beautifully done Theresa
Thanks so much, Shelly!
I was already crying when I started to read your poem. So good. So true.
Aw, so sorry for your tears. I hope they were cleansing, Pamie! (Did you see? You were one of the winners? Check Day 15)
“Not quite sure how you got to be the grown up” Beautiful.
