Poetry Challenge Day 4: “Approaching Michelangelo’s David”

Okay, not starting a poem until after 8 pm is a bit of pressure to come up with something! But somehow my brain stepped up to the plate to have something to post, whew. It’s rather silly, but was fun to write. Today’s prompt was:

Write a poem that puts you in conversation with a piece of visual art. Respond to the art, describe it, or tell us about its impact on you.

So that’s what I did…

Approaching Michelangelo’s David

He stands majestic,
all 17 feet of silky marble skin, poised in that classical pose.
One hand reaching up to his shoulder, one arm hanging down,
every chiseled inch smooth and pale, so lifelike I was almost
not surprised to see him nod as I approached. Continue reading

Poetry Challenge Day 3: The Best I Can Do

Getting in my Day 3 poem a bit late in the day. I’ll keep this introduction brief– I think the poem says it all!

The Best I Can Do

Today
is one of those days
when the writing prompt is “delight”
and my mind is a blank.
Outside my window
it is still crusty gray winter in April.
Spring seems far away
and I’ve been dragged through
some hard times for quite a while.
Haven’t we all?
My mood is low

A Bouquet of Poetry

In the midst of this bustling holiday season, I offer you a bouquet of poetry. I know for myself that it’s so good and necessary to stop a moment, breathe and relax. A little poetry break might be just the thing.

Today I have put together a list of poems from my Poetry Challenge last April. Perhaps one or two will spark your interest and help you take that moment of respite from busyness. Self-care is so important, how ever you choose to do that. I need to remind myself that a lot! Continue reading

Poetry Challenge – Day 30!!!

Welcome to Day 30 of my 30-Day Poetry Challenge!

Well, here we are, the end of April, the end of this poetry challenge! Wow, it has been a ton of fun, a lot of work, and extremely meaningful to connect with people and give away books. I’ve learned a lot in the process.

Thank you SO MUCH, readers and commenters and sharers of my work! I am humbled and honored by your part in all this, yes, even if you read in silence, just a few poems.  I am still thinking about what’s next for me going forward, and definitely want to continue posting here, poems or observations. Stay tuned! I have a lot of ideas…

Congratulations, Brenna, for winning a free copy of my poetry book! Brenna, please email me your address so I can send your prize: theresa.sapphire@gmail.com

I will do one more book raffle tomorrow, so don’t forget to comment. I will contact the winner by email.

Thanks again for reading! Now for today’s poem.

On a whim, I became fascinated by looking up artists and writers who were late-bloomers. The NaPoWriMo prompt for today was to write a poem that “engages with a strange and fascinating fact,” so maybe that’s what got me going. In any event, it seemed like a fitting end to the 30-day Poem Challenge. Which I just noticed, ends with begin!
